National Licensed Professional Guide/Tour Entertainer
Areas of expertise
Shitamachi (old neighborhoods in East Tokyo), traditional handicrafts and performing arts, Japanese gardens, food, cafes.
All of Tokyo but my favorites are: Asakusa, Ueno, Kappabashi, Yanesen (Yanaka, Nezu, Sendagi), Tokyo Skytree, Akihabara, Kanda, Kiyosumi Shirakawa, Fukagawa, Ningyocho, Nihonbashi and Kagurazaka.
Possibly being one of the friendliest people and the best English speakers you will ever meet here in Tokyo, I class myself as a tour entertainer rather than a regular tour guide. My goal as a tour entertainer is to fill your day with surprises, laughter and unforgettable memories.
Growing up in Tokyo, I have always loved walking through different neighborhoods to discover pieces of history and culture. So whatever niche request you throw at me, I know exactly where to take you. It’s great if you’re a foodie and/or a karaoke lover because that’s what I specialize in. But above all that, I am a true people person that can easily connect with travelers.
So how did I get into the tour business? Well, it all started when I hopped on the plane and flew to Orlando Florida in work in Walt Disney World for a year. I was a cultural representative at a Japan-themed shop in one of their theme parks, introducing all things Japanese to guests from around the world. This allowed me to see my home country through the eyes of those with different cultural backgrounds and realize how unique everything that had been “normal” to me was.
After my return, I started organizing my own tours and cultural experience events for international travelers and expats in Tokyo, where I enjoyed invaluable opportunities to work with talented craftsmen, chefs and performing artists including geishas, who devote their lives to preserving Japanese traditions. This formed my key perspective – people are what make a culture.
My tours focus on telling stories of the people who make Japan what it is, from regular folks living their daily life, to those who are maintaining traditions and others who are creating new aspects to the culture. So, come and join me as I show you Japan’s iconic sights, as well as hidden back alleys, and become a part of Tokyo’s story!
