Day trip to Kamakura and Zen temples Walking Tour

Kamakura is an ancient city established by the Samurai in the 12th century and is easily accessible from the concrete jungle of Tokyo (only 90 minutes by train). The city possesses heaps of character; its history, lovely cafes, tasty food, and old, rustic atmosphere, has made it a hotspot for romantic getaways. In addition, its idyllic countryside, temples, and shrines naturally puts your mind and spirit at ease.

In this tour, we will stroll through the town and stop by various temples and shrines. The tour will then stretch to the seashore where we will relax and take in the view of the horizon. With clear skies (and providing Mount Fuji is in a good mood), you may also get to catch a glimpse of Japan’s largest mountain peaking out of the landscape.

We will explore many points of interest so wear comfortable shoes and remember to bring your smartphone or camera to capture all of the great photo opportunities!
These include the following:

  • Symbolic shrine of Kamakura which was regarded as the protector deity of the warrior class.
  • Zen temple with a bamboo forest garden where you can relax and enjoy natural scenery while drinking traditional matcha tea.
  • Buddhist/Shinto hybrid shrine where you can wash money to receive goodluck.
  • Hydrangea temple which contains a beautiful mossy, stream garden.
  • Flower temple.
  • Kamakura’s giant Buddha.
  • Traditional swordsmith shop.

If you want to beat the crowds and congestion and take in fresh morning air, we can start the tour earlier at 9am from JR Kamakura station. In addition, please let me know beforehand if you want to experience soaking in a relaxing hot spring that looks out onto the ocean.
